Art is Life

I sit here with my cup of hot coffee, playing delicious acoustic music, in my house on a little island off Gig Harbor, desperately trying to create.

What is my problem?

Oh so many things, the little voice in my head says. Or is it a big voice? I have so much to share with you, dear reader, yet I am struggling to start.

I am filing this under ART on my site, because I consider writing an art form. I have always loved books – though I don’t read nearly enough of them. Maybe one day I’ll be able to actually write a book from all my crazy ideas.

For now though, I want to start the conversation with you about art, and why it makes your heart sing. I honestly don’t know what some art does to me but I know when I’m in a gallery and simply cannot walk out without owning that piece. I seem to find this happen when I am traveling, and experiencing new cultures, smells, and tastes. I see a piece that gives me the same emotion or memory as when I first stepped off the plane, and then go through the motions of, ‘can I afford this?’ ‘what will I do with it?’ ‘is this a conversation starter – and will I know what to say?’. It usually ends with, ‘I don’t really care but I have to have it’. So, alas, I have become a collector of eclectic, eccentric, interesting art from around the world.

Perhaps this is why I have created this site and this blog. To find a way to gather my eclectic thoughts into a single space that I can share with people. What is the point of art, and creation, if not to share it? That said, I’m terrified. What if you don’t like it? What if you think I’m scatter brained and a bit silly?

The answer is, good. It’s good if you think literally anything about what I’m sharing because it means that you are interacting with it. It has caused a reaction. Do I want negative reactions? No way. I am a marketer, an artist, and a accidental executive that wants you to love me and say only nice things. Neurotic much?

All this is to say, I hope that you see something in here that provides a reaction of some sort. Spend some time looking at the pieces, share your own, and let’s engage in a discussion about what makes art so fascinating. We have so few pleasures in life that we can love thoroughly. This is one of them.
